What Is Internalized Educational Colonization? Internalized Educational Colonization is the process through which people absorb an educational system, worldview, history, values, and definition of knowledge that were shaped by a dominant culture. Over time, these ideas can become so deeply embedded that people begin to accept them as the natural and unquestionable way of understanding the world. Education is often viewed as a pathway to freedom, and it can be. But education can also become a powerful instrument for shaping consciousness. What is taught, what is left out, whose history is remembered, whose knowledge is considered legitimate, and whose ideas are dismissed can influence how people understand themselves and their possibilities. When this process becomes internalized, people may begin to measure their intelligence, success, history, and identity according to standards created by someone else. When Education Shapes How You See Yourself The deepest effect of educational colonization is not simply what someone learns. It is what someone learns to believe about themselves. A person can be taught that certain cultures are advanced while others are backward. They can be taught that certain forms of knowledge are scientific while other forms are superstition. They can learn to admire the accomplishments of others while knowing very little about the intellectual, cultural, scientific, and creative accomplishments of their own ancestors. Over time, this can create an unconscious belief that knowledge, intelligence, civilization, and achievement belong primarily to someone else. The student may begin to see their own history as secondary. They may begin to believe that their ancestors contributed little to human civilization. They may learn to associate intelligence with speaking, thinking, dressing, and behaving according to standards established by the dominant culture. The educational system has then done more than provide information. It has helped establish an identity. The Power of the Curriculum Every educational system makes choices. Someone decides what belongs in the curriculum, what deserves to be remembered, what should be emphasized, and what can be ignored. This does not mean that everything taught in an educational system is false. It means that education always operates through a particular perspective. When one cultural perspective becomes the dominant perspective, other experiences can disappear from the story. History may become centered around conquest rather than the people who experienced it. Innovation may be credited to one civilization while the contributions of others remain unknown. The development of societies may be presented as though civilization moved in one direction, from one group of people to everyone else. When students repeatedly encounter this version of reality, they can unconsciously absorb the message that some people create history while others simply receive it. Learning to See Yourself Through Someone Else's Eyes Internalized Educational Colonization occurs when people begin to evaluate themselves using standards that were created outside their own cultural experience. They may believe that their language is inferior. They may feel that their traditions are uneducated. They may believe that success means becoming more like the dominant culture. They may feel embarrassed by their history because they were never given the opportunity to understand it beyond the narrative of oppression. They may know more about the history of another civilization than they know about the intellectual and cultural development of their own people. The result can be a subtle form of psychological dependency. The individual continues to look outward for confirmation of their intelligence, value, history, and potential. The Difference Between Education and Conditioning Education should expand consciousness. Conditioning narrows it. Education teaches a person how to think. Conditioning teaches a person what they are permitted to think. Education encourages questions. Conditioning discourages questions that challenge the established framework. Education introduces possibilities. Conditioning defines limitations and presents them as reality. The purpose of Absolute Understanding is not to reject education. It is to become conscious of the difference between being educated and being conditioned. A person can receive an excellent education and still carry assumptions that have never been examined. What Happens When History Is Incomplete? When people are given an incomplete understanding of history, they can develop an incomplete understanding of themselves. History is not simply a collection of dates and events. History helps people understand where ideas came from, how societies developed, why institutions exist, and how the present was shaped. When important contributions are excluded, a person can unconsciously inherit a distorted picture of human potential. They may believe that creativity belongs to others. They may believe that scientific thinking belongs to others. They may believe that philosophical thought belongs to others. They may believe that technological advancement belongs to others. They may even believe that their ancestors had to be introduced to civilization rather than recognizing that every people has contributed to the development of human civilization in different ways. The problem is not simply missing information. The problem is the identity that develops around the missing information. The Colonization of Intelligence One of the most subtle forms of educational colonization is the colonization of intelligence. When a society repeatedly defines intelligence according to the standards of one dominant culture, people can begin to believe that intelligence itself has a particular appearance, language, accent, behavior, or cultural expression. This can cause individuals to underestimate themselves. They may possess creativity but not recognize it as intelligence. They may possess practical wisdom but not recognize it as knowledge. They may possess cultural memory but not recognize it as education. They may possess intuitive understanding but dismiss it because it does not fit within an accepted academic framework. Absolute Understanding allows us to recognize that knowledge can exist in many forms and that education should expand our ability to recognize truth rather than narrow the definition of what truth can be. Education Should Create Thinkers The highest purpose of education is not memorization. It is the development of conscious thinkers. A person should be able to examine information, question assumptions, recognize patterns, compare perspectives, investigate evidence, and reach conclusions through reason and discernment. When education becomes the simple transfer of approved information, students can become excellent at remembering answers without learning how to question the assumptions behind those answers. Absolute Understanding requires something deeper. It requires the willingness to ask: Why am I being taught this? Who created this definition? What has been left out? Whose perspective am I seeing? What assumptions are hidden inside this information? These questions do not destroy education. They deepen it. Reclaiming the Right to Know Educational liberation begins when a person understands that they have the right to investigate knowledge for themselves. This does not mean rejecting teachers, universities, textbooks, science, or established scholarship. It means refusing to surrender the responsibility for understanding. A teacher can provide information. A book can provide information. A university can provide information. But no institution can think for you. The responsibility to understand ultimately belongs to the individual. This is where education moves from information toward consciousness. From Educational Conditioning to Absolute Understanding Absolute Understanding begins when we become conscious of the ideas that have been placed within us through education. We begin to examine inherited definitions of intelligence. We begin to question incomplete histories. We begin to recognize the difference between knowledge and ideology. We begin to explore perspectives that may have been excluded. We begin to understand that discovering more about our own history does not require hatred of anyone else's history. It requires a more complete understanding of humanity. The goal is not to reverse the hierarchy and place one group above another. The goal is to remove the hierarchy from the definition of human worth altogether. Awakening the Mind Awakening is therefore not simply learning more facts. It is learning to see more clearly. It is recognizing when your understanding has been limited by someone else's assumptions. It is becoming willing to examine what you were taught without automatically accepting or rejecting it. It is learning to think rather than simply repeat. It is learning to question without fear. It is learning to investigate without surrendering your judgment. Education should not teach you what to think for the rest of your life. It should teach you how to think for yourself. The Path Toward Absolute Understanding The question eventually becomes: What would I understand about myself and the world if I examined everything I had been taught through the lens of Absolute Understanding? That question opens a much larger field of awareness. You begin to recognize that education is not merely the accumulation of information. It is the development of perception. It is the development of discernment. It is the development of reason. It is the development of consciousness. And when education becomes a tool for awakening rather than conditioning, knowledge becomes more than something you possess. It becomes something you understand. That is the movement from Internalized Educational Colonization toward Absolute Understanding. The purpose is not to abandon education. The purpose is to reclaim it. Learn. Question. Examine. Understand. Remember who you are. Continue Your Journey Toward Absolute Understanding
